The BYU-Hawaii men’s basketball team (1-1) couldn’t hold onto an 11-point first-half lead in losing 84-60 to Seattle Pacific (2-1). SPU was paced by Joe Rasmussen’s 20 points on 9-for-11 shooting.
>> The BYUH women’s team improved to 2-0 with a 79-63 victory over Arizona Christian, which fell to 4-1. The Seasiders were led by Valerie Nawahine, who had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, both team highs.
>> Alaska Anchorage shut down host Hawaii Hilo for the second straight night, beating the Vulcans 80-33. Mid-Pacific graduate Kiki Roberston had four points, five steals and two assists off the bench as the Seawolves improved to 10-0 this season. The Vulcans drop to 0-2.
>> On the men’s side, the Vulcans (0-2) dropped a road contest to Central Washington, 100-87. The Wildcats, who improve to 2-0, had five players score at least 16 points, led by Gary Jacobs’ 23-point effort.
Chaminade sweeps BYU-Hawaii
The Chaminade volleyball team made quick work of BYU-Hawaii with a 25-21, 25-17, 26-24 sweep at McCabe Gym on Friday. The Silverswords improve to 18-9 overall and 11-8 in PacWest play, while the Seasiders drop to 14-13 overall and 12-7 in PacWest play.
The Silverswords were led by Keani Passi’s 22 kills and Brenda Walker’s 14 digs, both game highs.
>> Hawaii Pacific’s volleyball team beat Hawaii Hilo 25-21, 18-25, 27-25, 25-11 to improve to 15-12 overall and 10-9 in PacWest play. The Vulcans drop to 11-11 overall and 9-10 in PacWest play.
Pomai Recca led the way for the Sharks with her double-double of 14 kills and 14 digs.
