The new International Market Place will be home to the first U.S. location of Yauatcha, a restaurant specializing in Chinese dim sum and tea as well as European-style patisserie items. The Michelin star-winning Yauatcha restaurant chain, with two locations in London and four in India, is among the restaurants of Hakkasan Group, owned by an Abu Dhabi-based investment company.
Hakkasan specializes in high-end restaurants, nightclubs and what it calls "day clubs," built around swimming pools. Hakkasan also has hotels under development through a joint venture.
"Bringing Yauatcha to Honolulu marks a milestone for the Hakkasan Group and further enhances our vision of moving into high-growth markets," said Nick McCabe, president of Hakkasan Group, in a statement.
At International Market Place, Yauatcha will join chef Michael Mina’s StripSteak restaurant and The Street food hall, Eating House 1849 by chef and restaurateur Roy Yamaguchi, additional restaurants and approximately 75 retailers, including Hawaii’s first full-line Saks Fifth Avenue.
Servco celebrates milestone with donations
After selling its 500,000th vehicle, Servco Pacific Inc. has announced it will dole out $250,000 in donations next year. The money will be divided among 10 nonprofit organizations nominated by Hawaii residents.
Submissions must be 250 words or less and explain why residents are personally thankful for the work the nonprofit organization does in Hawaii.
Nominators must not be affiliated with the nonprofit they are recommending, and must submit their entries by Dec. 18.
A committee of Servco employees will review and vote on the nominations from Dec. 21 through Jan. 2, with check presentations to the selected organizations to be made Jan. 4-29.
"As Thanksgiving approaches we are reminded of giving thanks for our friends and family, and we wanted to give back to the community that has showed Toyota Motor Corp. vehicles so much aloha over the last 57 years," said Rick Ching, president of Servco Automotive, in a statement. "We know these grants will go a long way toward helping our communities. This is our way of saying ‘mahalo.’"
The company became an automobile distributor in 1958 and now represents the Toyota, Lexus and Scion brands.
Jordan, supermarket settle likeness lawsuit
CHICAGO » Michael Jordan and a supermarket chain have reached an agreement in a yearslong lawsuit that alleged misuse of the basketball star’s name in advertising, according to spokespeople for both sides.
The case involved Jewel-Osco’s use of Jordan’s name in a 2009 Sports Illustrated ad that congratulated the six-time NBA champion on his induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame. The ad included a large Jewel-Osco logo under the text. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but a jury in August awarded Jordan $8.9 million from the now-defunct Dominick’s Finer Foods for invoking his name in a similar ad that included a coupon for food.
Attorneys disclosed settlement talks in court last month, after a judge suggested that both sides may be interested in a quick resolution given the Dominick’s judgment. The Jewel-Osco case was set to go to trial in December.
Dominick’s operated under supermarket chain Safeway, which also later merged with Albertsons.
