The ZipperLane on the H-1 freeway was fully closed at 12:45 p.m. Monday after a delay due to mechanical problems with the ZipMobile.
The ZipMobile experienced problems after partially closing the barriers Monday morning. The controls for the vehicle’s speed malfunctioned while moving the barriers.
A second ZipMobile was used to shut down the lane, and there was no impact on traffic in any H-1 lane, according to state Department of Transportation officials. The peak evening commute was not affected.
The ZipperLane was expected to reopen this morning at its normal hour of 5 a.m.
On March 31 the ZipMobile broke down in the morning as it was closing the ZipperLane, causing widespread gridlock on Oahu well into the evening commute.
