Thanksgiving weekend will present the Rainbow Wahine basketball team with a challenging three-day test in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Shootout.
The tournament opens Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center with the Wahine (3-1) set to face CSU Bakersfield, No. 16 Arizona State and No. 2 South Carolina.
"Last week obviously wasn’t easy with (Loyola Marymount) and Washington State, but this is by far our biggest challenge," UH coach Laura Beeman said.
The Wahine, coming off a loss to Washington State last Sunday, open the tournament Friday with a 5 p.m. matchup against CSUB (1-2). It will be the first of a home-and-home series with a rematch set for Dec. 30 in Bakersfield, Calif., where the Wahine lost to the Roadrunners 78-69 last year. Both teams went 23-9 last season and played in the WNIT.
Arizona State (1-1) and South Carolina (4-0) meet in the tournament opener at 2:30 p.m. ASU reached the sweet 16 in last season’s NCAA tournament while South Carolina advanced to the final four.
UH takes on ASU on Saturday and South Carolina on Sunday in its last regular-season appearance at the Sheriff Center of 2015.
