Paul Harris set a school record early in his junior season and enters the Rainbow Warriors’ finale vying for membership in the program’s 1,000-yard club.
If Harris can pick up at least 34 yards Saturday against Louisiana-Monroe he would become the ninth UH back to go over 1,000 yards in a season and the first since Alex Green rushed for 1,199 in 2010.
He enters the game seventh in the Mountain West Conference with 966 rushing yards and 87.8 per game. His average of 5.7 yards per attempt ranks second in the league.
Harris broke Skippy Dyer’s 60-year old UH record for longest run with a 95-yard touchdown against UC Davis on Sept. 19 and ran for a season-high 190 yards against UNLV on Nov. 7.
That performance began a streak of three consecutive games of at least 100 yards, becoming the first UH back to accomplish that feat since James Fenderson in 2000. A fourth straight on Saturday would tie the school record.
Harris’ 179 yards on a season-high 28 carries in last week’s loss to San Jose State was also his fifth game in triple figures, the most in a season since Travis Sims posted nine such performances in 1992. He also scored his fifth touchdown of the season in the loss.
