Early risers looking for something different for breakfast will find “Hankfast” awaits at Hank’s Haute Dogs.
It’s a very small menu, served 10 to 11 a.m. daily, comprising ice coffee whip ($2.50); a breakfast dog ($5.50) of a pork link sausage, cheese and neatly folded omelet-style egg on top; and, most important, breakfast fries ($8.50).
Hank Adeniya’s mash-up of potatoes and eggs Benedict has resulted in a new use for hollandaise. That silky, lemony, buttery sauce works well at cutting some of the weight — even if only sensorily and psychologically — of fries topped with cheddar, sauteed onion, green peppers and poached egg, without all the difficulty of cutting through a traditional Benedict. Just pick up sticks.
Add-ons of Portuguese sausage ($2), avocado ($1.25) and/or sauteed mushrooms ($1) only make it better. Not exactly the breakfast of champions, but oh so yummy!
Hank’s is at 324 Coral St. Call 532-4265.
