Chaminade men lose in overtime

JT Roach scored 27 points and Martin Thomas hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:07 left in overtime as Concordia (Calif.) defeated the Chaminade men’s basketball team 92-89 on Thursday at McCabe Gym. 

Kuany Kuany scored 27 points for the Silverswords (1-6, 0-1, PacWest), who blew a 14-point second-half lead.

Thomas’ 3-pointer put the Eagles (6-1, 1-0) ahead 90-87.

Chaminade’s Kiran Shastri made two free throws with 52 seconds left, but Concordia’s Matt Scott dunked with 11 seconds remaining to cap the scoring.

The Sharks, who won their fourth consecutive game, are 4-2, 1-0 in the PacWest.

Joshua Crum and Jonathan Cortez both scored 18 points for the Hawks (1-7, 0-1).

HPU women claim PacWest opener

Breanna Mackenzie and Jessi Reeves both scored 17 points and Cece Pearl added 16 as the Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team beat Holy Names 86-63 on Thursday at Blaisdell Arena.

The Sea Warriors (3-4, 1-0 PacWest) held a 26-0 advantage in bench points.

Jeana Magana scored 24 points for the Hawks (1-5, 0-1).

>> Lilia Maio had 18 points and nine rebounds and Kristle Henry finished with 16 points and six steals as Chaminade defeated Concordia (Calif.) 62-53 at McCabe Gym.

The Silverswords improved to 1-3, 1-0 PacWest.

Brittany Stafford and Zoe Goss both scored 15 points for the Eagles (1-4, 0-1).
