Tally of dengue fever cases climbs to 136
Six more confirmed cases of dengue fever have been reported on Hawaii island, the state Department of Health said Friday.
Of the 136 confirmed cases since an outbreak of the virus began in mid-September, 119 are Hawaii island residents and 17 are visitors.
Dengue fever is spread by infected mosquitoes, and officials are encouraging residents of Hawaii island to take measures to prevent being bitten.
The Health Department reported negative test results in 369 potential cases of dengue fever.
Couple charged with criminal trespass in Hilo
Hawaii County police have charged a 30-year-old Hilo man and a 21-year-old Mountain View woman after the two entered another person’s home without permission on Nov. 30.
Police responding to a domestic dispute call at an Iwalani Street address found Davin Mizuno and Ashley Szewerda inside a home belonging to an 86-year-old woman, who had a temporary restraining order against Mizuno.
During the subsequent investigation, police recovered from Szewerda’s purse a koa jewelry box belonging to the victim as well as 0.7 gram of heroin, three prescription pills, two marijuana pipes and other drug paraphernalia.
On Wednesday, police charged Mizuno with criminal trespass and violating a court order. His bail was set at $1,500.
Szewerda was charged with criminal trespass, theft, promoting a dangerous drug, promoting a harmful drug, promoting a detrimental drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. Her bail was set at $9,000.
Police arrest man over parking lot ‘confrontation’
Hawaii County police charged a 32-year-old man with multiple offenses after he was arrested for a “confrontation” in a Makaala Street parking lot on Wednesday.
David James Nall was charged Friday with attempted second-degree assault, second-degree terroristic threatening, fourth-degree criminal property damage and disorderly conduct. His bail was set at $3,500.
