One dismal chapter in the story of health care reform — the struggles of Hawaii’s health insurance exchange — has come to an end. As the state turned that page Friday, there’s still tension about what’s next.
Only about 4,500 people of the 38,000 who had been enrolled through the Hawaii Health Connector have managed to re-enroll in the federal online exchange, healthcare.gov. And deadlines to enroll via that exchange are coming up fast: Dec. 15, to avoid loss of coverage on Jan. 1.
If Hawaii, the state with historically the best record of health coverage suddenly ends up with thousands uninsured, that would not be a happy ending to this tale.
Wahine again give Hawaii reason for pride
Kudos to the University of Hawaii volleyball Wahine on making it into the Sweet 16, the team’s first postseason NCAA regional since 2011.
The Wahine secured a berth after Friday’s too-close-for-comfort squeaker over Texas Christian University, then the sweep Saturday over Texas A&M. Next up: Friday afternoon against No. 7-seeded Penn State in Des Moines, Iowa. With Penn State heading in as the two-time defending national champion, the Wahine will need to continue clicking big-time.
