Even Darth Vader decorates for the holidays, apparently. The Sith Lord added a string of red and green lights to brighten up his Imperial Star Destroyer in the snow globe version of a “Star Wars” Christmas ornament drawn by Tyler Sado, 11, of Napili, Maui, for his entry in the Star-Advertiser’s Keiki Kalikimaka ornament contest.
We liked it so much that we pulled his entry for our special “Star Wars” coverage that starts today. (Tyler, a fifth-grader at Kamehameha Schools’ Maui campus, will be eligible for the drawing for cash prizes at the end of the contest.)
Tyler and twin brother Brandon were still in diapers when the last of the six “Star Wars” movies was released in 2005. They can thank their uncles for turning them into fans, according to mom Shanin Sado.
“I grew up with ‘Stars Wars,’ and my brothers were really into it, so they were introduced to it as toddlers,” she said.
The boys own a collection of “Star Wars” toys, books, bedding and more, and for Halloween dressed as a Stormtrooper (“from the 1970s,” Tyler was quick to add) and new villain Kylo Ren.
As for Tyler’s favorite movie in the sci-fi franchise?
“It’s kind of between Episode II (‘Attack of the Clones’) and Episode VI (‘Return of the Jedi’).”
May the Force be with you, too, kid.
