A Honolulu firefighter fell 15 feet and was taken to a hospital during the rescue of two lost hikers in bad weather on the Koolau ridgeline in Moanalua Valley early Thursday morning.
The firefighter was treated and released Thursday morning, a Fire Department spokesman said in an email.
The incident began at 8:49 p.m. Wednesday night, when two women in their 20s reported that they were lost.
Four fire companies and 12 firefighters responded, but because of the wet and windy weather, the Fire Department helicopter was unavailable to help.
Rescue crews reached the women on foot at about 10 p.m.
The firefighter was injured at about 1:30 a.m., after falling 15 feet. Other rescue personnel brought the injured firefighter back down the trail.
The women also were escorted out of the mountains Thursday.
2 armed robberies committed
An 45-year-old woman was robbed by a man in Kakaako on Wednesday.
The incident took place at 11:40 p.m., when the robber threatened the woman with a weapon and demanded that she hand over property. Honolulu police said the robber fled on foot with the woman’s property.
In a separate case, Honolulu police detectives were investigating a robbery Wednesday at a business in Kalihi. In that case the suspect brandished a firearm.
A man entered a business at 9:07 a.m., displayed the firearm and demanded money from a woman, police said.
No arrest has been made in either incident.
