A 5K fun run/walk will be held in Waikiki to help raise awareness about global access to clean water.
The inaugural Water for the World Run will start at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Waikiki Shell. A dance party with bands, booths, games and a beer garden will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event includes conservation awareness activities.
The course for the noncompetitive event goes around the Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Park, finishing at the park bandstand.
There will also be an optional 150-foot water slide at the finish line.
Water for the World Run will donate 10 percent of its proceeds to Water.org, an international nonprofit organization founded by Gary White and actor Matt Damon to provide access to clean water.
Race organizers say the average woman in a developing country has to walk 3.5 miles to get clean water — about the same distance as the event.
The cost of the run is $29.99. Participants will receive a drawstring minibackpack, logo sunglasses, temporary tattoos and a 2-liter water bag to simulate the weight of water carried by women in developing countries.

Hawaiian Mission Houses seeks docents
Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives is recruiting potential docents for training that starts next month.
The three-session workshop will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 16, 23 and 30 at the museum, 553 S. King St.
The training is free and open to the public, but Hawaiian Mission Houses officials stress they are looking for volunteers willing to make a serious commitment to learning about life in 19th-century Hawaii and serving as a docent who guides visitors around the grounds and exhibits.
