On Day Eight of his annual Hawaiian vacation, President Barack Obama rose early, retired early and in the hours in between did his darnedest to get in a few rounds of golf.

The president left his rented vacation compound in Kailua around 12:19 p.m. and headed to nearby Marine Corps Base Hawaii to play golf with friends Greg Orme, Darrell Harrington and Bobby Titcomb at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course. The foursome was slowed by intermittent rain throughout the day.

According to a pool report, Obama played on despite the increasingly bad weather, “apparently squeezing in a few strokes between continued bursts of showers.”

The president returned to the vacation compound around 5:48 p.m. with no further outings planned for the evening.
