A 77-year-old woman was critically injured Monday morning when she was hit by a city bus near Chinatown, police said.
The pedestrian was initially taken by paramedics to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition, but her condition worsened to critical, police said.
The woman was crossing Nuuanu Avenue at North Kukui Street at about 8:05 a.m. Monday when the bus struck her. She was in a marked crosswalk but appeared to be crossing against a red light, police said. Police closed two mauka-bound lanes on Nuuanu Avenue while they investigated.
Victim, shooter identified in Kapolei deaths
The city Medical Examiner’s Office on Monday identified the people who died in a murder-suicide that occurred Friday in Kapolei.
The victim was identified as Francisca Funtanilla, 56, whom friends described as a popular “faith healer” who relieved others’ pains and ailments.
The 32-year-old man who allegedly shot Funtanilla was identified as Rugel Queja of Waipahu.
Police said Funtanilla was shot by Queja, who then shot himself at about 2:30 p.m.
Funtanilla died at the scene, and Queja died at the hospital with a single gunshot wound.
Police are investigating what prompted Queja to shoot Funtanilla. Autopsies will be conducted to determine the cause of death of the two.
Man charged in Palolo assault case
A 46-year-old Kaneohe man was charged Sunday for allegedly assaulting a police officer who was investigating a fireworks and loud-party complaint New Year’s Eve in Palolo.
Chad Dunhour was charged with first-degree assault of a police officer and a liquor violation. His bail was set at $20,000. Police said Dunhour started challenging an officer when he arrived to investigate the complaint at about 10:50 p.m., on Waiomao Road. While holding an alcoholic beverage on the sidewalk, the suspect assaulted the officer as he was being arrested for a liquor violation, police said.
