A 30-year-old man was sentenced to 17-1/2 years in prison on charges related to distributing substantial amounts of pure and nearly pure methamphetamine.
Latunina Pohahau was sentenced in federal court on Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Derrick K. Watson on charges of conspiring to distribute 20 pounds of “almost pure” methamphetamine in 2013. Pohahau pleaded guilty on Sept. 5.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Pohahau offered to sell meth for $15,000 per pound to a Drug Enforcement Administration source on Aug. 14, 2013. The next day in Mililani he delivered 10 pounds of 99 percent pure methamphetamine to the source cooperating with the DEA. On Sept. 4, 2013, Pohahau was stopped by DEA agents and Honolulu Police Department officers on Ward Avenue as he was headed to a meeting with the DEA source. Ten pounds of 100 percent pure methamphetamine were discovered in the automobile Pohahau was riding in.
