Hawaiian Airlines transported 10.7 million passengers in 2015 to mark the company’s best year in its 86-year history.
The passenger total was up 4.7 percent from 10.2 million in 2014. The state’s largest carrier has now hit company records for 11 straight years as it expands its network. Hawaiian’s first 10 million passengers took nearly 40 years to carry from 1929 to 1967. In 2014 Hawaiian for the first time welcomed 10 million guests in a year.
The airline’s load factor, or the percentage of seats filled, inched up 0.1 percentage point during 2015 to 81.6 percent from 81.5 percent in 2014.
Revenue passenger miles, or one paying passenger transported 1 mile, rose 3.9 percent to 14.5 million from 13.9 million. Available seat miles, or one seat transported 1 mile, increased 3.8 percent to 17.7 million from 17.1 million.
In December passenger traffic rose 3.2 percent to 904,647 from 876,507, and the load factor rose 0.8 percentage point to 82.5 percent from 81.7 percent. Revenue passenger miles increased 2.5 percent to 1.24 million from 1.21 million, while available seat miles rose 1.6 percent to 1.51 million from 1.49 million.
