Rising waves on north and west shores were expected to reach heights of 35 to 45 feet Friday night, forecasters said.
The National Weather Service warns that dangerous surf conditions on the north and west shores of Kauai County, Oahu and Molokai and north shores of Maui are expected to continue until at least early evening. Waves are expected to remain dangerous but decline to 20 to 25 feet today.
A high-surf warning is in effect until 6 p.m.
West shores of Oahu and Molokai were expected to get wave faces of 20 to 25 feet, declining to 15 to 20 feet today.
“These dangerous conditions mean that only highly experienced persons should enter the water,” forecasters said. “Inexperienced persons should remain off beaches and adjacent beachfront areas. Large breaking surf, significant shorebreak and dangerous currents make entering the water very hazardous. Anyone entering the water could face significant injury or death.”
On Hawaii island a high-surf advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. today because of 6- to 10-foot surf along west shores.
Meanwhile, forecasters expect a weak cold front to stall near Oahu, bringing partly cloudy skies and light showers, especially in windward and mauka areas in the morning.
Winds will be light, and cool temperatures are expected with lows from 65 to 70 degrees and highs between 79 and 84 degrees.
