Lonohana Estate Chocolate was the only Hawaii business recognized last week as a winner in the 2016 Good Food Awards.
The Kalihi artisan chocolate maker won the award for its Kanahiku 70 percent dark chocolate. Lonohana produces small batches of its chocolate bars every eight weeks, incorporating organic Hawaii-grown items from coffee to spices. The bars are sold primarily through membership in the Lonohana Chocolate Club, with remaining bars sold at the factory. Call 223-9997.
The Good Food Award is given to companies across the nation that produce items voted tasty, authentic, connected to communities and cultural traditions, and responsibly produced.
More than 176 winners from 33 states were selected from nearly 2,000 entries. An awards ceremony was held Friday in San Francisco.
