A 20-year-old Wailuku woman was critically injured Thursday when the pickup truck she was driving overturned throwing her from the vehicle in Napili, Maui police said.
A white 2006 Mazda pickup truck was traveling north on Lower Honoapiilani Road at 1:48 a.m. Thursday when it failed to make it around a left bend in the road, police said.
It then skidded out of control, crossing left of center, striking the makai side curb/sidewalk where it then overturned, throwing the woman from the vehicle, police said. The truck also knocked down a fence line and crashed into two parked vehicles in a private parking lot.
The driver who was not wearing a seat belt sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center emergency room in critical condition.
Her front-seat passenger, a 37-year-old Wailuku man, was wearing a seat belt, and sustained minor injuries, police said.
9-year-old reports attempted abduction
Honolulu police are investigating a report by a 9-year-old girl that two males tried to drag her into a van in Waianae.
The incident occurred after school at about 5 p.m. Thursday, said police spokeswoman Sarah Yoro.
Police said the girl reported the incident to her parents and police were called but were unable to locate the suspects.
Yoro said the girl did not know the suspects.
Man charged in alleged assault of teen
A 23-year-old man has been charged with second-degree assault of a teenage boy in Ewa Beach.
Keith McShane Jr. of Kapolei was arrested at 10:40 a.m. Thursday.
The 17-year-old boy who sustained substantial bodily injury said a man assaulted him with a “dangerous instrument” in the Ewa Beach area at 4:50 p.m. Jan. 8, police said Friday.
Bail for the suspect was set at $100,000.
Boy, 13, accused with robbing girl, 12
A 13-year-old boy was charged Thursday with robbing a 12-year-old girl in Makiki.
The boy allegedly used a dangerous instrument to rob the girl on a Makiki sidewalk Tuesday.
Officers responding to a separate call for an abuse case at around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday recognized the boy as a robbery suspect.
The boy was positively identified and arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery.
