A man with a goatee and wearing sunglasses pointed a handgun at the victim, then took the vehicle at about 4:45 p.m. at Kualoa Ranch, according to police radio communications.
The man fled Kahuku-bound in the silver convertible with its top down and a red suitcase inside.
Police briefly pursued the suspect in the Kahuku area but ended the chase because the driver was driving too fast, the communications said.
Police found the vehicle unoccupied with the engine running at Laie Shopping Center at about 5:40 p.m.
