Led by a game-high 20 points from Cece Pearl, the Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team breezed past rival Chaminade 82-55 at Moanalua High School gym.
The victory marked the 21st consecutive time HPU has defeated Chaminade, dating back to the 2007-08 season.
The Sharks (11-7, 8-3 PacWest) received 14 points from Breanna Mackenzie, and 13 points and nine rebounds from Jessi Reeves. Lilia Maio finished with 16 points and nine rebounds for the Silverswords (4-11, 4-7).
HPU will now embark on a five-game road trip, starting with Dixie State on Saturday.
Nelson leads BYU-Hawaii past Dixie State
Kjirsten Nelson finished with 24 points in only 20 minutes as the Brigham Young-Hawaii women’s basketball team beat Dixie State 92-79.
Fueled by a 13-0 start to the game, the Seasiders (7-9, 4-7 PacWest) were able to take control early, then hold off any attempts by Dixie State (4-13, 4-7 PacWest) to rally.
Valerie Nawahine added 17 points and Celeste Claw had 15 points and seven assists for the Seasiders. Taylor Mann had 22 points and 13 rebounds for Dixie.
BYUH will head on the road to take on Point Loma on Saturday.
HPU storms back to beat Chaminade
Chauncey Orr finished with 24 points and Luke Hager added 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Hawaii Pacific men’s basketball team defeated Chaminade 82-77 on Tuesday at Moanalua High School gym.
Chaminade (7-11, 5-6 PacWest) led by as many as 20 points in the first half, but HPU (13-5 overall, 8-3 PacWest) trimmed the lead to 10 by halftime before completing the comeback in the second half.
David Ware scored 17 points and Kuany Kuany had 13 points and 15 rebounds for the Silverswords (7-11, 5-6).
BYU-Hawaii defeats Dixie State
Corey Lange poured in 22 points, including six 3-pointers, as the Brigham Young-Hawaii men’s basketball team defeated Dixie State 95-83 at the Cannon Activities Center on Tuesday.
Scott Friel added 20 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Seasiders (11-6, 8-4 PacWest), who shot 61.8 percent from the field.
Josh Fuller led Dixie State (9-8, 6-5 PacWest) with 25 points.
Next up for the Seasiders is a four-game road trip, starting Saturday at Point Loma.
‘Iolani’s Hau’anio commits to UH
‘Iolani offensive lineman Josh Hau’anio joined the ever-growing list of local football players who will stay home for college when he committed to the University of Hawaii on Tuesday night.
Hau’anio, a 6-foot-4, 300-pound senior, was offered by Hawaii head coach Nick Rolovich on Monday and took 24 hours to mull over a decision before letting the coaching staff know of his commitment.
Hau’anio also had offers to play at Army, Western New Mexico and Northern Arizona.
