>> Chaminade University women’s soccer coach Michelle Richardson announced the signings of four high school seniors who will join the Silverswords in the fall.
The group includes three signees from California and a local product in Kamehameha’s Cami Keliinui, a four-year letterwinner for the Warriors and a starter on the HHSAA Division I championship team in 2014.
Rounding out the group is Madison McNamara out of James Logan High School in Union City, Calif., Emma Spears from Freedom High School in Oakley, Calif., and Kirstin Wong of Aliso Niguel High School in Laguna Niguel, Calif.
BYU-Hawaii routed on the road
>> The BYU-Hawaii women’s basketball team fell to Azusa Pacific 106-63 on Friday night.
The Seasiders (8-12, 5-10 PacWest) had three players reach the double-digit plateau in Tyvette White (14), Devyn Kauhi (11) and Natallia Cravens (10). Kelly Hardeman paced the Cougars (19-3, 8-2 PacWest) with a game-high 27 points.
BYUH will return home to play Notre Dame de Namur at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the Cannon Activities Center.
>> On the men’s side, the Seasiders (12-9, 9-6) lost a heartbreaker to the Cougars (16-6, 10-4). With 0.2 seconds left, Connor Peterson knocked down a pair of free throws to give Azusa Pacific a 83-82 win.
Each team had five players score in double figures, with BYUH’s Scott Friel leading the way with a game-high 20 points.
Hawaii Hilo softball splits at Desert Stinger
>> The University of Hawaii Hilo softball team split its opening games at the Desert Stinger softball tournament by beating Regis University 8-3 and falling to Cal State San Bernardino 8-5.
Danielle Wilson earned the win for the Vulcans in the first game, allowing five hits and three walks over four innings pitched and striking out one. Billi Derleth finished the game by pitching three innings of shutout ball, only allowing three hits with one strikeout. Second baseman Brittany Huff led the Vulcans offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
In game two, Wilson and Derleth split the pitching over five innings and surrendered eight runs to the Coyotes. Jessica Angulo went 3-for-4 for Cal State San Bernardino.
UH water polo sweeps opening day
Hawaii freshman Irene Gonzalez scored nine goals in two matches and the fourth-ranked Rainbow Wahine water polo team swept the opening day at the Bruno Classic in Providence, R.I., with wins over Wagner and host Brown on Friday.
Gonzalez scored four goals and Femke Aan and Nikki-Marie Bell added two each in UH’s 12-10 win over No. 16 Wagner in the tournament’s opening match. Gonzalez scored in every quarter and the Rainbow Wahine never trailed in their second win over the Seahawks this season.
Gonzalez closed the day with five goals in a 17-10 win over Brown. Aan added four goals and Carla Abellan also had a hat trick for the Wahine.
UH (7-1) faces No. 21 Harvard and Bucknell today.
UH men’s golf team in 12th
The University of Hawaii men’s golf team dropped one spot to tie for 12th place after day two at the Amer Ari Invitational at the Waikoloa Kings’ course.
Freshman Cameron Kaneko is leading the way for the Rainbow Warriors with a two-day total of 142 after shooting a 70 on Friday, good for 27th out of 114 golfers.
No. 23 UCLA leads the field overall and is two strokes ahead of Southern California at 551. The Bruins’ Jonathan Garrick and Cole Madey are tied for the individual stroke lead with two-day totals of 135.
