The University of Hawaii is scheduled to appeal its 2016-17 men’s basketball postseason ban to the NCAA Infractions Appeals Committee on Monday, officials said.
That is the deadline for sanctions handed down by the NCAA Committee on Infractions in December.
On Friday, UH said its appeal “was being finalized and will be filed by the deadline,” according to a spokesman. The draft of the appeal was said to run “about 20 pages.”
Attorneys from the Alabama firm of Lightfoot, Franklin & White drafted the appeal, the school said. UH will not present the appeal at the NCAA’s Indianapolis headquarters in person, though it has the option.
Once the document is received, the IAC has 30 days to rule.
The decision could be pivotal for next season’s UH fortunes since players in their senior year of eligibility whose schools are under a one-year postseason ban are allowed to transfer without penalty.
At UH, Aaron Valdes, Stefan Jankovic, Stefan Jovanovic and Mike Thomas are among those who could take advantage of the option.
UH has said it is also seeking clarification on calculating the amount of the financial penalty due and scholarship reductions.
