A 41-year-old Hawaii Kai man crashed a stolen vehicle into a police patrol car last week in Pearl City, police said.
Brahman Sai Galanti was charged Friday with auto theft, first-degree criminal property damage and first-degree terroristic threatening. His bail was set at $25,000.
Police said an officer noticed a stolen vehicle that Galanti was driving about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday. After spotting the officer’s vehicle, Galanti began reversing down Waiawa Road and turned around before encountering another police vehicle down the road. Police said Galanti rammed the second patrol car before attempting to flee on foot.
Officers arrested Galanti a short distance away.
Brush fire extinguished quickly
Maui firefighters extinguished an early-morning brush fire Saturday in Waihee.
A motorist on Kahekili Highway reported the fire at 2 a.m., the Maui County Fire Department said by email.
Wailuku firefighters arrived on scene at 2:12 a.m., and found a 20-by-20-foot area of brush burning on the makai side of the highway, near River Road. Crews had the fire extinguished by 2:19 a.m.
The cause of the fire was undetermined.
Man accused of assaulting girl
A 32-year-old man was charged Friday with sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl in Kakaako.
Nick Willy, 32, was charged with multiple counts of first- and third-degree sexual assault. His bail was set at $250,000.
Police said the girl reported Willy sexually assaulted her about 8 p.m. Wednesday. Officers arrested him Thursday night at his home.
Suspect faces firearm charges
A 39-year-old felon was arrested Friday on suspicion of several firearm offenses after an officer noticed he was in illegal possession of a pistol in Kalihi, police said.
The officer discovered the pistol while arresting the man for trespass on Haka Drive about 2 a.m. Friday, police said.
Police arrested the man, of no local address, for investigation of trespass, a drug offense and several firearm offenses, including felon in possession of a firearm.
