Closed since a mid-June fire, Lahaina Chicken Company and Sbarro at the Ala Moana Center Makai Market food court reopened for business Wednesday.
An employee at neighboring Senor Pepe Fresh Mexican Grille told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser its reopening would come today.
Lahaina Chicken Company serves carved-to-order roasted chicken, beef and pork. Sbarro’s main fare includes pizza, stromboli and pasta dishes, while Senor Pepe offers typical Mexican-American food items from quesadillas to tacos, burritos to enchiladas and more.
Ala Moana Center officials declined to comment on the reopenings.
The fire on a busy Friday afternoon on June 12 prompted the evacuation of the food court area, as well as businesses above the food court on the mall and third levels. Thick, billowing smoke could be seen rising from the center.
Alerted to the fire at about 2:37 p.m. by Sbarro employees, the Honolulu Fire Department declared the blaze extinguished by 4:46 p.m. and later estimated damage at $700,000.
Because the fire’s exact point of origin could not be identified, the cause is officially listed as “undetermined,” said fire Capt. David Jenkins.
