Brush fires shut Waikoloa roads
Hawaii County police closed portions of Route 190 and Daniel K. Inouye Highway late Thursday afternoon due to numerous brush fires in the Waikoloa area.
The first road closure was reported at 5:17 p.m.
A police bulletin issued at 6:21 p.m. said that numerous fires along Route 190 — stretching from Kaiminani Drive to Waikoloa Road — and on Daniel K. Inouye Highway, from Route 190 to the old Saddle Road Junction, prompted the closures.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area and to take alternate routes.
