Spencer Gray posted 18 points to lead the Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team to a 69-63 double overtime win over Chaminade on Thursday at McCabe Gym. The Sharks (14-9, 11-5 PacWest) rallied from a 51-48 deficit with two minutes left as Breanna McKenzie scored a 3-pointer to tie the game.
Lilia Maio led the Silverswords (5-15, 5-11 PacWest) with 18 points and 16 rebounds.
BYU-Hawaii softball drops doubleheader
The BYU-Hawaii softball team fell 12-4 and 14-2 to Saint Martin’s on Thursday in Laie. Brandy Karl led the Seasiders (1-5) at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with two runs.
Loryn Williams and Kim Nelson earned the wins on the mound for the Saints.
Hawaii Hilo tennis wins season opener
The Hawaii Hilo women’s tennis team won all but one doubles match to defeat Chaminade 8-1 on Thursday at Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park. The Vulcans (1-0) clinched every singles match in two sets, including a 6-1, 6-3 victory on the No. 1 singles court with Trixie Croad beating Kimberly Takara.
Takara and Kauanoe Beamer won the No. 1 doubles match for the Silverswords (0-1).
>> On the men’s side, Hawaii Hilo rallied to beat Sonoma State 6-3 on Thursday. The Vulcans dropped all three doubles matches to the Seawolves but clinched every singles match, led by Kainoa Rosa’s 6-3, 6-1 win over Daniel Holz.
