The Rainbow Wahine swimming and diving team got off to a good start at the 2016 MPSF Swimming and Diving Championships at East Los Angeles College on Wednesday, winning the gold medal in the 800 yard freestyle relay.
The team of Kira Webster, Silvija Djelic, Cherelle Oestringer and Franziska Weidner posted a time of 7:14.75, just off the MPSF meet record time of 7:14.15. The men’s team placed fifth in the 800 yard freestyle. The men also placed third in the 200 yard medley relay, while the women finished fourth.
The event will continue today, with preliminary events beginning at 8 a.m. HST. Diving events will also begin tomorrow in Pasedena, Calif. at 9 a.m. HST.
