When Tiziana Ruiz Dominguez cleared the bar and descended into the padding below, a school record fell with her.
The 5-foot-5 Rainbow Wahine senior from Mexico set the UH track and field program’s indoor pole vault record Saturday, clearing 13 feet, 1.5 inches in the Husky Classic in Seattle. Ruiz Dominguez soared past the previous mark of 12-08 set by Jessica Custance in 2008 and matched the record again on Sunday to tie for second in the UW Open.

Ruiz Dominguez, who transferred to UH from Mt. San Antonio College last season, also ranks second in the program’s outdoor record book with a height of 13-1.75 set last April in the Rainbow Relays. Patricia Gauthier holds the record of 13-3, also set in 2008.
The Rainbow Wahine return to Seattle next week to compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Championships set for Feb. 26-27 at Washington’s Dempsey Indoor Complex.
