The 33rd class of the University of Hawaii Sports Circle of Honor will be inducted Saturday during halftime of the Rainbow Warrior basketball game at the Stan Sheriff Center.
This year’s inductees are All-American sailor Molly O’Bryan Vandemoer, broadcaster Don Robbs and the late Wallace “Wally” Nakamoto who was the UH diving coach for 31 years. The trio brings to number 119 individuals and teams that have their plaques hung on the inner concourse of the Sheriff Center.
Robbs, who is in his 40th and final year as broadcaster for Hawaii baseball, is the third play-by-play announcer to be inducted.
O’Bryan Vandemoer, the 2002 Jack Bonham Award winner, is the first sailor honored. She skippered the Rainbow Wahine to the 2001 ICSA women’s national championship, a second-place finish in 2002, and went on to represent the U.S in the 2012 Olympics.
Nakamoto is the 21st head coach to be inducted. He was an all-regional diver during his three varsity seasons at UH and helped design the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
