Skye Inakoshi added his name to a rather illustrious list by tying for medalist honors at the John Burns Intercollegiate last week.
>> Class: Junior
>> Major: Accounting
>> Hometown: Honolulu
>> High School: Mid-Pacific
>> Quick Fact: Led the team with a 74.5 scoring average last season.
Inakoshi became the first UH golfer to claim at least a share of the title in its 40-year history with a career-best total of 6-under par 210 at Wailua Golf Course on Kauai. The event’s past winners include eventual PGA Tour champions Bobby Clampett, Steve Pate, Notah Begay and Tiger Woods.
Inakoshi recovered from a rough start last Wednesday to end the first round at even par. He then fired rounds of 3-under 69 the next two days to finish in a four-way tie atop the individual leaderboard.
He circled eight birdies on his scorecard in the second round to move into a tie for fourth and had six more in the final round. He finished the three-day event with a tournament-high 20 birdies.
Inakoshi led UH to an 11th place finish in the team standings. The Rainbow Warriors will play the remainder of their schedule on the mainland, starting with the Jackrabbit Invitational March 7-8 in Primm, Nev.
