Authorities on Sunday recovered the boat involved in a fatal accident off Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe Bay.
The Coast Guard said the 17-foot Boston Whaler washed up on shore at Fort Hase Beach on the base at 2 a.m. Base authorities recovered the vessel after it came ashore.
Three men were in the boat when it was hit by a rogue wave and overturned at about 10 p.m. Friday, Honolulu firefighters said.
Two of the men were in the water for more than four hours before they were able to swim to North Beach on the base and call for help at about 2:25 a.m. Saturday. One of the men, a Marine, became separated from the other men before they returned to shore, and firefighters found his body underwater about 8:25 a.m. Saturday.
He was stationed at the base, a base spokesman said. His identity was not released.
The Coast Guard had issued a warning to mariners about the drifting boat before it was recovered.
