Kaiser Permanente Hawaii will begin making job offers today to more than 1,400 employees of three Maui County hospitals as part of its transition toward managing the financially struggling facilities starting July 1.
Employees have until 5 p.m. on March 24 to return their acceptance form. Every current employee is being offered a position, according to Kaiser spokeswoman Laura Lott. She said Kaiser is recruiting for additional open positions as well.
Kaiser, the state’s largest health maintenance organization, with 245,559 members, said the employees’ rate of pay will be included in the offer letter and is within a range that is competitive with what is paid for similar work in the community and industry.
In January, Gov. David Ige signed an agreement transferring operations of Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital and Lanai Community Hospital to Kaiser in the first privatization ever of Hawaii hospitals.
Kaiser said 28 physicians and providers employed by the hospitals will receive offers from Pacific Permanente Group, a subsidiary of Hawaii Permanente Medical Group.
The HMO, which is both an insurer and medical provider, has 23 clinics statewide.
