A statewide series of public meetings will be held from March 28 to May 5 on proposed University of Hawaii tuition increases of up to 6 percent over three years.
UH officials say they plan to explain why they are proposing the tuition increases during the meetings, prior to the Board of Regents taking action in June.
Officials previously said the additional funds from the tuition increase will be used to address the $500 million systemwide deferred maintenance backlog that has developed over past decades.
The proposed three-year tuition schedule, starting with the 2017-18 academic year, includes increases up to 2 percent a year but varies by school in the 10-campus UH system.
The schedule can be found at hawaii.edu/offices/aa/tuition.html.
Both written and oral testimony will be accepted at the meetings. Testimony can also be submitted by email to tuition@hawaii.edu.
