SPOKANE, WASH. >> California was dealt another potentially severe setback just prior to its NCAA Tournament first-round game against Hawaii, as Golden Bears point guard Tyrone Wallace suffered a broken hand in practice on Wednesday, according to a Yahoo Sports report.
Wallace’s status is in question for the 8 a.m. matchup Friday with the Rainbow Warriors, Yahoo said about the injury to Wallace’s non-shooting hand. The senior leads the fourth-seeded Golden Bears (23-10) in scoring (15.3) and assists (4.4). He was a first-team Pac-12 selection last season.
UH, a 13 seed in the South Region, held a comparatively uneventful practice at Gonzaga on Wednesday.
California was already in turmoil this week with coach Cuonzo Martin firing assistant Yann Hufnagel for allegations of sexual harassment of a female reporter.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that a Cal spokesman confirmed the injury.
