Theater supporter Polly Miao congratulated cast members Kenny Kusaka, left, and Allan Y. Okubo after Thursday’s opening-night performance of Manoa Valley Theatre’s production of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.” Although Kusaka and Okubo are best known as dramatic actors, they successfully play against type with effective performances in broad comic roles — Kusaka as egotistical Miles Gloriosus and Okubo as semilucid elderly Erronius.
