Tenth-ranked Oklahoma State defended its championship Wednesday at the 31st Donnis Thompson Invitational. The Cowgirls won their fifth Thompson title with a final round of 3-over-par 291.
Their 54-hole total of 4-under 860 at Kaneohe Klipper tied 28th-ranked Texas A&M. OSU won the tie-breaker with a 75 from its fifth player, Emma Broze, which was five better than A&M’s fifth score.
Host Hawaii finished seventh at 301—903. The Wahine were led by junior Izzy Leung (72—217), who tied for eighth.
Medalist was Texas A&M’s Thanya Pattamakijsak. She closed with a 5-under 67 to shoot a tournament-record 208. That was three better than OSU’s Maddie McCrary (72) and A&M’s Bianca Fabrizio (69).
‘Iolani graduate Marissa Chow tied for fourth, helping Pepperdine to a third-place finish.
UH junior Raquel Ek (75—226) tied for 31st. She was followed by freshman Kaci Masuda (77—229) and juniors Daezsa Tomas (77—231) and Kelli-Anne Katsuda (77—243).
UH-Hilo was last in the 16-team field, led by Kristen Sawada, who finished 74th at 79—242. Portland State freshman Keilyn Ing (82), an ‘Iolani alum, also shot 242 and Gonzaga’s Ciera Min (Waiakea) earned a share of 24th at 77—224.
Registration set for USGA Hawaii events
Registration is coming up for several USGA national championship qualifiers coming up in Hawaii.
The first are U.S. Open local qualifiers, at Ka‘anapali May 7 and The Club at Hokuli`a two days later. Hawaii’s U.S. Women’s Open Sectional Qualifier returns May 16 at Waialae Country Club.
Registration deadline is April 27 for the Open and May 4 for the Women’s Open.
The Girls and Boys Junior Amateur qualifiers are June 28-29 at Turtle Bay’s Palmer Course. Registration opens April 4 and deadline is June 1. The girls play one round (June 28) and the boys play two.
April 4 is also the day registration opens for Hawaii’s U.S. Women’s Amateur Qualifier, which is July 2 at Poipu Bay on Kauai. Deadline is June 15.
