Prosecutors on Thursday charged a 47-year-old Kaneohe man for stabbing to death a 55-year-old man during an argument.
Bryan Lucrecio was charged with second-degree murder. His bail was set at $500,000.
Police said Darryl Tomita was stabbed in the back during an argument at a home on Waikapoki Road in Kaneohe at 5:25 p.m Tuesday.
The Medical Examiner’s Office said the cause of death is pending the completion of an autopsy.
Lucrecio was arrested at about 6:15 p.m. at Kaneohe Bay Plaza on Kamehameha Highway.
Tomita was taken to Castle Medical Center in extremely critical condition, according to Emergency Medical Services. He later died at the hospital.
Lucrecio was convicted in 2013 of two counts of second-degree assault on a police officer and one count of resisting arrest, according to the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center. He also was convicted of first-degree terroristic threatening in 1993.
Woman charged with robbing bank
Prosecutors on Thursday charged a 40-year-old woman with no local address with robbing a Waikiki bank Wednesday.
Leia McNeely was charged with second-degree robbery, unauthorized possession of personal information and a contempt warrant. Her bail was set at $20,000.
Police said a woman entered the bank and handed the teller a demand note at 11:09 a.m. Wednesday. She left without any money.
Officers found and arrested the woman less than a half-hour later at 333 Seaside Ave.
Police declined to provide the name of the bank.
Kalihi house fire under investigation
A fire caused $150,000 damage to a Kalihi house Thursday morning, Honolulu Fire Department Capt. David Jenkins said.
The fire broke out just before noon at 1760 Gulick Ave. Jenkins said firefighters arriving at the scene saw smoke and flames coming from the kitchen.
Firefighters had the fire under control at 12:02 p.m. and extinguished it by 12:47 p.m.
No one was in the home, and no injuries were reported. The American Red Cross is assisting the people who live there.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
