There’s no better time than spring to freshen up a bit.
This week the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s Today section is introducing new features and moving a few favorites, just to keep things fresh.
First and foremost among them is Crave, a brand-new magazine headed by Betty Shimabukuro that is replacing the old Food section on Wednesdays to provide lively coverage of cooking, dining out and more.
Here are some other changes to look for this week:
>> Monday will see the launch of staff writer Mike Gordon’s new weekly column “Cranky Dad,” a personal look at the life and times of a middle-age man (and the long-suffering family that puts up with him).
>> Wednesday is providing a new home — and a brighter spotlight — for “5 Things We Love,” featuring our latest obsessions. Providing an additional boost to help readers get over the midweek hump will be our exclusive “Double Take” photo puzzle, comprising scenes of island life, that will appear weekly on Page D2, accompanied by syndicated word games “Up &Down Words” and “Seven Little Words.” (We do love our puzzles!) Don’t miss the answers on Page D3.
>> The ohana-focused Kalakoa section, formerly published Saturday, will take up residence Thursday, offering news and event listings for families, John Rosemond and other parenting experts, and the “Savvy Senior” column. Anchoring Kalakoa will be the new “She Speaks” column by staffers Christie Wilson, Zenaida Serrano, Celia Downes and Kristen Consillio, who will provide insight into the busy lives of women — from young single ladies to working moms and empty-nesters.
>> Celebrate Hawaii style on a new day — Saturday — with the latest in fashion and beauty by Nadine Kam and “Island Lookbook,” sharing lifestyle tips from trendsetters around town. For Nadine’s latest “Project Runway All Stars” recap, see today’s Page F5. After that, you can follow the designer drama starring Hawaii’s Kini Zamora on Saturdays.
