Kauai police on Tuesday arrested a 49-year-old Lihue man and former Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii volunteer for allegedly sexually assaulting two girls who were under 14 years old.
Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault and third-degree attempted sexual assault. Charges are pending.
A parent of one of the victims reported an assault to police last week, police said.
A police spokeswoman declined to elaborate on any connection between the Boys and Girls Club and the sex assaults.
The nonprofit organization is cooperating with police on the investigation, police said.
In an emailed statement, Tim Motts, president and CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii, said: “The Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii has learned of allegations of misconduct by a former volunteer of the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii Lihue Clubhouse. The organization is deeply concerned by these allegations and is committed to cooperating fully with the Kauai Police Department as they conduct a thorough investigation of this serious matter. The former volunteer is barred from any access to our facilities and programs.”
Police are asking anyone with information on the assaults to call dispatch at 241-1711 or CrimeStoppers at 246-8300.
