Fire causes estimated $178K in damage
Honolulu Fire Department personnel battled a fire Friday morning at a seventh-floor unit of the Mokulani Apartments on Keeaumoku Street.
Firefighters responding to a 10:09 a.m. emergency call found smoke and flames emerging from the unit and commenced with high-rise procedures to secure the building’s elevators and lobby, according to HFD spokesman Capt. David Jenkins.
The fire was brought under control by 10:30 a.m. and fully extinguished by 10:44 a.m.
Fire officials said no one was in the unit at the time of the fire. Residents evacuated the eight-story apartment building without incident. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was undetermined. Damage to the unit totaled $170,000, and damage to the unit above and vehicles below was about $8,000, Jenkins said.
