Hawaii County police said Wednesday tips from the public helped them to recover a pair of boxing gloves bearing autographs from the 1984 Olympic Games.
Police announced the recovery of the boxing gloves from a residence in the Orchidland Estates subdivision in Puna.
The gloves, emblazoned with autographs of numerous boxers and referees who participated in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, were removed from a home in Hawaiian Beaches during a burglary possibly in mid-January, police said. The investigation into the theft of the Everlast gloves was continuing, police said.
Tips sought on suspicious fires
Hawaii County police said arson might be the cause of three brush fires that occurred Sunday in West Hawaii.
Four brush fires were reported between 9:45 a.m. and 4:36 p.m. Sunday between the 8-mile marker and the 26-mile marker off Highway 190. Two are classified as third-degree arson, oneis classified as fourth-degree arson and one is currently classified as a fire.
They are the latest in a series of suspicious brush fires in the same area since February.

Crash critically injures man
A 29-year-old Pahoa man was critically injured in a collision between a garbage truck and a car Tuesday near the intersection of Kilauea Avenue and Kawailani Street in Hilo.
Police said a 2004 Peterbuilt garbage truck was traveling south on Kilauea Avenue when it collided with a 2001 four-door Lincoln sedan traveling west on Kawailani Street. The crash wasreported at 4:51 a.m.
The Pahoa man who was the driver of the Lincoln was taken to Hilo Medical Center and later flown to the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu in critical condition.
