Aloha Stadium officials say they expect the new artificial turf to be installed in time for the start of the football season.
“We’re trying to get it done before the first high school event, which is the second week of August,” stadium manager Scott Chan said.
UH opens its home season Sept.10.
Work isn’t expected to start until late next month due to the high school graduation season. “The last (graduation) is May 22, so that only gives us two and a half months,” Chan said.
The stadium wants the new turf to aid the state’s bid to bring back the Pro Bowl for 2017.
“It is (ambitious) but we’ve worked with this consultant (Fukunaga and Associates) before,” Chan said.
In other news, Ryan Andrews has been named deputy manager of the stadium. He succeeds Lois Manin who became football operations director at the University of Hawaii.
Andrews most recently spent the last two years as the Director of Health & Wellness for The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center. Earlier he served as assistant events manager at Aloha Stadium.
“Ryan has a strong understanding of operations and the commitment required to oversee a venue of this magnitude,” Chan said.
