The Mauna Kea Hui filed a formal complaint Friday involving retired Hawaii island Circuit Judge Riki May Amano, who was hired to oversee the contested case over the Thirty Meter Telescope. Opponents object to Amano’s background, as she and her husband, Donald Amano, have been members of Imiloa Astronomy Center since 2012. Opponents also are asking that the hiring process be restarted for the hearings officer. An undated artist rendering shows the proposed Thirty Meter Telescope on Hawaii’s Mauna Kea.
