Who really runs your workplace? Chances are it’s the office manager, executive secretary or someone else who falls under the umbrella of “administrative professional.”
Administrative Professionals Day, April 27, is the day we pay these crucial employees their due. Lunch out is traditional, but for the ultimate tribute, make reservations at the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki.
A traditional luau meal comes with entertainment by Amy Hanaiali‘i, Mark Yamanaka, Bobby Moderow Jr., Raiatea Helm, Ben & Maila, Lehua Kalima, Kawika Kahiapo and Jeff Peterson.
First consider whether your office can get along without its manager for at least two hours: The event runs 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $55, or $525 per table of 10 if you’re bringing the staff. Call 952-4789 or email events@ hiprince.com.

Normally, Fresh BOX puts all the ingredients for a meal in a box, with instructions, for you to assemble at home. On Thursday you can skip the step where you provide manual labor and go straight to eating at Le Diner, a pop-up cafe at The Safehouse, the lounge in The Republik.
The menu was designed by Fresh BOX’s William Chen, former executive chef of Beachhouse at the Moana.
The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. or until the food runs out, for ages 21 and over.

Beyond popcorn: Movie food upscaled
Regal Cinemas aims to attract both film buffs and foodies to the new Kapolei Commons 12 multiplex when it officially opens Thursday.
On the menu: The Off-the-Hook Combo ($7.99), a sweet-and-salty combination of blondie brownie bites, Maui potato chips and popcorn drizzled in caramel and chocolate sauces. The Vietnamese-French Sandwich ($11.99 with Maui potato chips; add $1 for french fries) is Regal’s take on the traditional banh mi and is prepared with tender lemongrass chicken and pickled vegetables on a fresh baguette and topped with lettuce and cilantro.
Those with more adventurous palates might consider the Paniolo Hot Dog ($7.59), a mash-up of sweet and savory flavors built on a Nathan’s Famous Angus Beef Hot Dog and a fresh bun. Add bacon, sprinkle some chili flakes and drizzle on some sweet red chili sauce, then top it off with pineapple and cilantro. This one isn’t for the faint of heart!
Other sweet bites offered include Malasada Bites ($7.99), house-made to order and dusted with cinnamon sugar; and fresh cupcakes ($4.49) and Coco Mac Cookies ($6.99) from local vendors Let Them Eat Cupcakes and The Hawaiian Pie Co., respectively.
Visit regmovies.com starting Thursday to view movie schedules, reserve seats and purchase tickets.
