Former two-sport Hawaii star Amber Kaufman has joined the Pitt women’s volleyball staff as a volunteer assistant.
Kaufman was an honorable mention All-American middle blocker for the Rainbow Wahine from 2006-09, helping Hawaii to a final four appearance her senior year. She also was a three-time All-American in track and field, winning the NCAA high jump title in 2010.
Kaufman spent the past three years playing in Finland’s Mestaruusliiga Volleyball League, where she was named to its all-star team in 2015.
The Panthers are coached by Dan Fisher, the former Rainbow Warriors associate head coach from 2009-2011. Fisher has been at Pitt since 2013.
BYUH men’s golf second at PacWest
The Brigham Young-Hawaii men’s golf team finished second at the 2016 PacWest Championship at the Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz. The Seasiders shot a combined 299 on Wednesday, the final day of the tournament, to finish with a team score of 883.
Dixie State won the team championship with a composite score of 868. Dominican finished third with a scored of 884.
Among the other teams from Hawaii, the UH Hilo was fifth (910), Chaminade was eighth (926), and Hawaii Pacific was ninth (931).
BYUH’s Brent Grant took home the individual title. Grant finished six shots clear of any other golfer, shooting a final round 1-under to finish the tournament 7-under par. Grant is currently the No. 24 ranked golfer in the country.
HPU women finish sixth at PacWest
The Hawaii Pacific women’s golf team finished sixth at the PacWest Championship at the Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz. The Sharks shot 330 on Wednesday to finish with a composite score of 1017 in the three-day tournament.
California Baptist took home the overall team title, with a composite score of 910. Academy of Art (950) was second, and Point Loma (959) was third.
Mint Chimsuti was HPU’s top finisher, placing 16th with a final round score of 75, to finish with a total of 246. Cal Baptist’s Erica Wang was the individual champion after defeating Point Loma’s Michelle Picca 5-4 in a playoff after both golfers posted scores of 224.
