The PK Fitness app measures the effort put into a workout or activity instead of emphasizing how far or fast one travels. In this screen shot of his app, Bryan Clay, wife Sarah and their three children — Jacob, 10, Kate, 8 and Ellie, 6 — take a trek up Koko Crater while Clay tracks his own progress. Effort scores are color coded using blues for warm/up and cool down, green for aerobic activity and yellow to red for performance.
