Hawaii closed out the beach volleyball regular season the same way it started: with a weekly honor from the Big West.
Junior Nikki Taylor and sophomore Ka’iwi Schucht, the Rainbow Wahine’s No. 2 team, earned their first conference honor after going 2-2 at last week’s Outrigger Resorts Aloha Invitational. The two, paired for the first time this season at the tournament, swept their contests with Long Beach State and Grand Canyon while dropping both matches with top-ranked USC.
No. 5 Hawaii (13-8) claimed seven of the eight weekly honors from the Big West, only missing out on the week the Wahine had a bye. It was the second weekly honor for Schucht, who teamed with junior Hannah Rooks at No. 3 to earn the March 28 pair of the week.
Hawaii is the top seed in the inaugural Big West championship tournament, Friday and Saturday, in Huntington Beach, Calif. The Wahine will learn if they are in the field of next week’s first NCAA championship tournament during Sunday’s selection show at 4 p.m. on NCAA.com.
