A 34-year-old Honolulu woman is to appear in Honolulu District Court in May after she was charged with beating up a 67-year-old man at a downtown park.
Crina Holt of downtown Honolulu was charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail, police said Wednesday. Her bail is $1,000.
The incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. April 21 at Kamalii Park behind the fire station at Fort Street Mall and South Beretania Street.
The victim told police he was walking home when he stopped at Kamalii Park, where an umbrella-carrying woman and a man approached him. The woman demanded his wallet and jewelry and poked him in the face with the umbrella, injuring his eye, and when the victim refused to give up his belongings, the woman punched him in his face several times until he fell against a wall, according to police. The two suspects allegedly proceeded to kick the man in his stomach and head while he was against the wall.
The victim held on to his valuables but lost his cane. He told police he was able to run away and last saw Holt swinging his cane at him as he ran off. He sustained cuts and scrapes in the attack, police said.
The next morning, the victim was walking home when he spotted the woman sitting in the same park. He called police, and officers arrested her at the scene.
