Hawaii Pacific volleyball coach Daryl Kapis on Thursday announced the verbal commitments of five players for next season.
The players are Kaira Davis, a 6-foot outside hitter/middle hitter from Kamehameha Schools-Maui; Kaylee Mohr, a 5-8 setter from Ironwood Ridge (Ariz.) High; Amanda Acosta, a 5-6 defensive specialist from Exeter (Calif.) High; Alyson Brunner, a 5-11 middle hitter from Butte College; and Sierra Dawson, a 5-foot-10 setter from Quinnipiac University.
Berland, Mackenzie are top HPU athletes
Men’s tennis player Thibaud Berland and women’s basketball player Breanna Mackenzie were named Hawaii Pacific University Athletes of the Year during a banquet Monday at Aloha Tower Marketplace.
Berland also was named Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Male Senior of the Year. He played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Sharks and maintains a 4.0 GPA.
Mackenzie, a sophomore, was named second-team All-PacWest after averaging 17.7 points per game.
